BiographyMiss Katherine Lakoski, American Dramatic Soprano, is originally from Chesapeake, Virginia. She sang her first European performances with "America's Youth in Concert" in Venice, Rome, Florence, Paris, Brussels, London and Salzburg. She attended Greensboro College in North Carolina as a scholarship student where she received her Bachelor of Music Degree. She then attended The Juilliard School where she received a Master of Music Degree also as a scholarship student and a member of the American Opera Center and the Opera Training Department. While at Juilliard she took part in various operas and concerts and also performed in a special Lincoln Center School Concert Program for three years and served as the Quartet's Organizational Director for their concerts throughout the New York and Connecticut School Systems. Ms. Lakoski has performed as Soprano Soloist of the Verdi Requiem (Dr. Julie Pretzat and Maureen McCauley, conductors) in association with the Syracuse Symphony and the Oswego Opera Theatre in Syracuse, NY and Oswego, NY. She also has been invited by the Aspen Music Festival, the Lake George Opera Festival, the Surry Opera Company, and the Virginia Opera Association. She took part in international productions such as the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, South Carolina where she sang the role of the Overseer in Richard Strauss' "Elektra" (Spiros Argiris, Conductor, Gunter Kramer producer). She then sang the 5th Maiden and Confidant in another production of "Elektra" with the Columbus Symphony conducted by Christian Badea who invited her again to sing a Flowermaiden for a production of "Parsifal" in Columbus. In addition, Ms. Lakoski participated in the Emmy Award winning movie "Big Bird in China" as the Phoenix Bird, and was invited to sing the role of Leonora in Beethoven's "Fidelio" in the former USSR.As a Dramatic Soprano, Ms. Lakoski performed selections of Isolde ("Tristan und Isolde") at New York University as well as die Bruennhilde from Act II of "Die Walkuere". She had the opportunity to sing Ortlinde in the "Ring Cycle" with the Seattle Opera Association in both German and English productions under the baton of Maestro Henry Holt. She also has been Sieglinde in Act I of "Die Walkuere" with the Juilliard Orchestra in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, New York City (Jorge Mester, Conductor). Awards and prizes: First place in the Liederkranz Vocal Competition - Wagnerian Division and Second place in the radio broadcast Minna Kaufmann Ruud Vocal Competition. Numerous concerts in New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, Virginia and Georgia as well as many European cities. Her concert repertoire includes the Beethoven 9th Symphony, Bach Magnificat, Faure Requiem, Handel Messiah, Haydn Lord Nelson Mass, Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, and especially the Verdi Requiem and Wagner Wesendonk-Lieder. Ms. Lakoski studied voice with David Jones in New York City, and now lives in the Chesapeake, Virginia area where she is a choral director and teaches vocal technique to private students.
